Spring Blizzard 09

I think when I grow up I want to be a weather reporter. I mean, seriously, how many jobs can you be wrong more than 50% of the time and people still think you are good at your job and still listen to you! Last week they started predicting that we were going to get a blizzard starting on Friday and going through Saturday. Initial reports were for 10 inches or more. Friday came and it rained off and on throughout the day. As the temperature got colder it turned to a "wintry mix". By the time the 10pm news came on, the predictions for accumulation were down to 1 to 3 inches. When we woke up Saturday morning there may have been two inches on the ground, but that was about it. By Sunday all the snow was gone and it was in the 60s again. So much for the spring blizzard!

Zach had his second volleyball game on Saturday. The Bethany team looked a lot better and we won our first match! Zach is improving each time and seems to be enjoying himself. After volleyball we did our weekend shopping and came home. Zach's buddy Nathen spent the night, so Wendy and I watched a couple movies. First it was Zach and Miri Make a Porno. It was ok, some funny parts. I know I am getting old because movies with an endless amount of the F word just annoy me instead of amusing me. Second was Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist. It was cute and less annoying.

Sunday I went to the hospital to see Noel, Dollie and India. India was diagnosed with meningitis on Saturday, so it has been a scary weekend for them. She seemed to be doing much better on Sunday. They will find out the type today when they get the culture results back. Extra prayers for them would be appreciated.

Sunday while Zach took a nap we watched our third movie of the weekend, The Secret Life of Bees. Its a bit of a chick flick, but it was good. We finished up our weekend by walking to Brahms after dinner for ice cream. Now it is back to the grind. Hope everyone has a great week.

Spring Break

Spring break week went too fast. Wendy was not able to take time off from work, but Zachary and I made plans to go see my close friend Cora in Tucson. I haven't seen Cora for about 6 years and it was fantastic to see her. When I lived in Tucson, Cora's family basically became my adopted family. If Larry was out of town for holidays or any other special occasions I spent that time with Cora and her family. We had lost touch for a few years, but were able to reconnect around Christmas time. I was sad to find out her Dad had passed away about two years ago, but he will always hold a special place in my heart.

The weather in Tucson was wonderful. Zach and I went to the Desert Museum, Pima Air and Space Museum, Old Tucson, Funtastic and took a drive up Mt. Lemmon. Zach had a great time panning for gold at Old Tucson and soaking me with the squirt gun on the bumper boats at Funtastic. We also had dinner with some of Cora's family to help celebrate Willie's birthday. I can't believe he just turned 24. I also introduced Cora and Rob to Papa Murphy's pizza. If you haven't tried, you should check it out.. it is YUMMY!

Catching up with Cora and Rob was wonderful. We have plans to see each other again at the Wine Festival in Albuqeruque over Labor Day weekend. Cora, I miss you. You are in my thoughts everyday.

Hope everyone enjoys the pictures.

Training

For those of you that don't know I am training to run a 1/2 marathon (13.2 miles) in April. Fridays are my distance day and today I ran 12 miles. Granted, I had to walk some, but I made it. I'm not sure I'm going to be able to run the whole thing. The longest I have ran without walking is a 10K (6.2 miles). I know it will be a little easier running outside on a course instead of on a treadmill at the gym but man. I read once that 90% of running is mental and only 10% physical and I can totally see that. More than once I have psyched myself out about being tired. I just wish I knew what to do to convince myself that I can do this no matter what.

My long term goal is to run a full marathon next April. I guess we will see how the 1/2 goes this year and then go from there.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.
