Vacation - Grand Canyon Day 2

Our second day of vacation started very early.. like crazy early. We decided to get up in time to take the bus to the eastern edge of the south rim to watch the sun rise over the Grand Canyon. This meant a 330am alarm to allow us time to get up and catch the 4am shuttle. It was painful, but the beautiful view made it all worth while.

After watching the sun rise we took the shuttle back to the lodge just in time to see five beautiful elk hanging out having some breakfast. It was amazing how close we were able to get to them. They basically just stood around looking at us as we took picture after picture. It was unbelievable. They finally laid down to rest, so we walked over to the lodge and have a yummy breakfast. After a quick shower it was time to start the drive to Las Vegas! Saturday evening was spent at UFC 100. It was very cool! Frank Lester from this season's Ultimate Fighter was sitting in front of us for awhile, so I was able to get my picture take with him. The atmosphere was really cool and just all in all a good time. After the fight we went to the Rok club in our hotel (New York, New York). It was supposed to be Frank Mir's after party but at 1am he hadn't shown up so we decided to call it a night.

What a crazy day... Sunrise at the Grand Canyon in the morning and UFC fighting at night! Wouldn't have changed a thing! Here are the pictures from day 2.

Vacation - Grand Canyon Day 1

It has been way too long since I have posted, but things were just crazy getting things ready to go on vacation and then I did my best not to touch a computer the entire time we were on vacation! In order to catch up I'm going to break the vacation down into segments to tell you all the fun we had.

Thursday the 9th we started driving as soon as I got off work. We drove as far as Albuquerque and then stayed with Wendy's friend Kim. Friday morning we started our actual vacation by driving onto the south rim of the Grand Canyon. We stayed a Bright Angel Lodge where our cabin was about 20 feet from the canyon. It was pretty amazing and I highly recommend staying there if you are visiting the canyon. After checking into the cabin we took the shuttle bus to the points on the west side of the canyon. We walked between some of them and stayed on this side of the canyon until sunset. It was simply amazing. Here are the pictures from Friday, including sunset.
